This sounds very simplistic but as I have said before I am a big fan of 'Art'. I think that Creator God is particularly, prophetically, poetically and profoundly present in the God image reflecting act of creation that we do when we make/encounter art. (you could also say 'make...' - something else that is about creation and beauty joy comfort etc!) Anyway, I am not saying all Art is 'good', it just seems to create what the Celtic Christians called 'thin places' where heaven and earth are mysteriously close, even touching. Take a look at this bit of graffiti and keep in your mind the Lord's prayer
Our Father which art in heaven,Hallowed be thy name,Thy kingdom come,Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread.And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.And lead us not into temptation,but deliver us from evil:For thine is the kingdom,and the power, and the glory,for ever. Amen.

You could hear a person in Africa pray this prayer using a slight different translation:
"Give us this day our daily bread. Release us from our debts, we we release those indebted to us. Lead us not into times of testing."
Maybe God hears this kind of prayer when we hear it and respond. What could we do to give bread and release debts of the world.
I think we sould formalise our ice cream commitment that Dee was talking about. New Years Resolution #1 No ice cream in 2009 with all money that we would have spent going to those who need bread and the means and opportunity of bread and release from debt (not Ben and Jerry's)
This art piece is very sriking and something I think will stick with me. It makes me want to sell everything i have and send the money to people who need it. With Christmas coming up too it leaves me feeling a bit sick about all the stuff we are going to be buying and receiving and how others are simply trying to survive day by day. I am well up for doing the ice-cream thing in 2009 and the amount I spend on it alone will probably feed a whole community in Africa somewhere! (funny yet appalling.)
